AVIF
Abbreviation for AV1 Image File Format
In short and in plain language
AVIF is a modern format for images. It makes photos and graphics much smaller, at good quality.
Smaller images can help a website load faster. This is true most of all on phones.
Older browsers cannot show this format. So a spare format is often sent as well.
Definition
AVIF is a modern image format that compresses photos and graphics strongly at good quality. Smaller image files can shorten a website's loading time, especially on mobile devices. Older browsers cannot display it, so a fallback format is often supplied.
