backup

In short and in plain language

A backup is a copy kept to be safe. It holds files, databases and settings.

It can be, say, of a website or a shop. After an error or an attack, you can bring back an earlier state with it. This also helps when data was lost.

Only a test shows how well this works. In the test, you try to bring the backup back.

Definition
A backup is a safety copy of files, databases and settings, for example of a website or an online shop. After an error, an attack or data loss, an earlier state can be restored from it. Only a test restore shows how reliably this works.
