reflector
In short and in plain language
A reflector is a bright surface, such as a white board.
It bounces light back onto the dark side of the item. This makes shadows softer.
You do not need another lamp for this. The reflector usually stands across from the lamp.

A reflector is a bright surface, such as a white board, that bounces light back onto the shadow side of a subject. This softens shadows without needing another lamp. In product photography it usually stands opposite the main light.
